Ever wondered why you can’t speak like a native English speaker?

Or you speak fairly but writing content makes you really nervous?

Do you feel hopeless about writing super-good content as authors do on well-to-do sites?

Then let me tell you this! Even I’m not a native English speaker and YES, I RUN A CONTENT WRITING COURSE!

But before we go deep in this post, I want one thing to be clear! YOU CAN’T WRITE LIKE NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS.

Now I said this not to discourage you, but to let you accept the fact and then work on yourself.

Just think, how different your first-language/mother tongue is from English, and then add cultural differences to the equation.

I think you must be getting the real picture now — just to make it a little bit more interesting, also add trends, variations in speech of different areas and this list could potentially go on.

That means there are countless different factors affecting your speech/writing in English because you are not a native English speaker.

Now, this was just the half side about it which I never meant in any way to discourage you. Now what’s coming ahead will cheer you up!

Question this to yourself!

Are you really fluent in writing your first-language as much as you can speak in it? Many of you might say yes but the majority….. ARE NOT THAT FLUENT.

The same applies to native English speakers.

What this means is WRITING TAKES PRACTICE! You might never be enough fluent as a native English speaker but you can GET BETTER AT WRITING IN ENGLISH.

Tips to write good quality content in English even if you’re not a native speaker

Now that I have cleared this, we shall move towards some tips regarding writing in English even if you are not a native English speaker.

Tip no. 1: Have an amazing topic ready in your mind beforehand

You don’t have to be as fluent as a native English speaker to write a good piece of content. What matters is how interesting is the topic you are going to write on and how well you can express it. This takes me to the second tip.

Tip no. 2 Use simple but precise words that can express the topic you chose

Words which you use should not be too difficult to understand unless you’re targeting only literary societies where people expect some accurate terms or difficult words.

If you’re targeting a general audience, then your content and its words should be precise and simple enough for even a child to understand its meaning.

Also, build sentences in your mind in English only. Don’t rephrase them from your first-language.

Trust me on this! Local references can break your sentences in other languages.

Tip no. 3: Read reputed books, articles and magazines of your niche

It is self-explanatory but what I want to add is only go for reputed sources as they have a good style of writing which your subconscious mind will pick up eventually.

Tip no. 4: Don’t get discouraged by your mistakes

Granted English is a simple language as compared to others, however, even native English speakers make errors in grammar.

Remember, it’s ONLY by making mistakes and learning through them will make you a master in writing English in no time.

Tip no. 5: Practice writing

Writing is like exercising. You will get better at it if you practice it daily. So, start writing 500–1000 words daily.

Use Google Docs, Word or other similar platforms if you want to practice in private or go for platforms like Quora and Medium to publicize your writing.

Pro Tip: Go for public platforms because when you see people encouraging you for your work, it will help you in building self-confidence.
